5th Luna

This is one of several asteroids placed in Earth orbit so that their resources could be used for space colony construction. 5th Luna is capable of independent movement, thanks to the thermonuclear pulse thrusters installed on its surface. In U.C. 0093, Char Aznable's Neo Zeon fleet seizes control of this asteroid and sets it falling towards the Earth Federation Forces headquarters in Lhasa, Tibet. [Char's Counterattack]

A Baoa Qu

One of the Principality of Zeon's asteroid fortresses, located behind the "dark side" of the moon in the vicinity of Side 3. This huge asteroid, shaped like a spinning top, serves as both a base for the Principality's space fleet and as a factory for mobile suit and mobile armor production. It's here that Gihren Zabi chooses to make his last stand against the Earth Federation Forces at the end of the One Year War. [Gundam]

Amman

An industrial city located on the far side of the moon, not far from Granada. Amman's factories are supplied by the resource mines and piles of scrap metal which surround the city. Due to the presence of a Federation Forces base at Granada, the AEUG resistance group initially uses Amman as its hideout, and most of the AEUG's battleships are constructed in this city's shipyards. [Zeta Gundam]

Anaheim

Although Anaheim Electronics' main mobile suit factories are located at Granada and Von Braun, the company is actually headquartered at its namesake lunar city of Anaheim. The Titan cruiser Alexandria visits this city to collect its initial complement of RMS-108 Marasai mobile suits. [Zeta Gundam]

Armstrong Plaza

Along with the adjacent Armstrong Park, this plaza forms the public center of the lunar city of Von Braun. It's named in honor of astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first human being to set foot on the moon. [Zeta Gundam]

asteroid belt

A ring of asteroids which lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. After the space settlement program is launched in the early years of the Universal Century, some of these asteroids are transferred to Earth orbit to supply resources for colony construction. The Principality of Zeon also establishes a permanent outpost at one of these asteroids, and this Axis base becomes a place of refuge for the Principality's defeated soldiers after the end of the One Year War.

Augusta Base

The Earth Federation Forces base where the RX-78NT1 Gundam is developed. Although the Augusta Base is located in North America, a region which is under the control of the Principality of Zeon throughout most of the One Year War, the Principality forces fail to realize the significance of this small facility and it thus escapes enemy attack. After the war, the base's pioneering research into Newtype weaponry is continued by the Augusta Newtype Lab. [Gundam 0080]

Axis

An asteroid base established in U.C. 0072 by the Principality of Zeon and the lunar manufacturing cartel. Located in the asteroid belt that lies between Mars and Jupiter, this facility is originally used for resource mining, and during the One Year War it also serves as a way-station for the vessels of the Jupiter Fleet.

After the end of the One Year War, Axis becomes a place of refuge for renegade Principality soldiers fleeing the Earth sphere. Half the remaining Principality fleet eventually makes its way to Axis, along with ten thousand soldiers and twenty thousand family members and dependents. These renegades spend years struggling to create a livable home in the far reaches of the asteroid belt, all the while planning for their eventual return.

On February 6, U.C. 0086, the exiles finally begin their journey home. Axis, now fitted with a set of thermonuclear pulse thrusters, leaves the asteroid belt and sets off on a twenty-month voyage back to the Earth sphere, where it will dramatically change the balance of power in the Gryps Conflict... [Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam, Char's Counterattack]

Belfast

This city in Northern Ireland is the site of a major Federation Forces base. The White Base docks here after Operation Odessa, and its pilots fend off incursions by the Principality of Zeon's amphibious mobile suits. [Gundam]

California Base

This major Earth Federation Forces military complex - made up of more than a dozen different naval, aerospace, and weapons-development facilities - is captured during the Principality of Zeon's Earth invasion, and becomes the Principality's major terrestrial base. After expending much of its fighting strength in a failed assault on Jaburo, the California Base is recaptured by the Federation Forces on December 15, U.C. 0079.

Cheyenne

A city in North America, in the modern-day state of Wyoming. In the early years of the Universal Century, Cheyenne is home to an Earth Federation Forces air defense command center, but by the time of the Gryps Conflict this base has been more or less decommissioned. A small staff is left behind to maintain the base's facilities, among them the One Year War hero Amuro Ray. [Zeta Gundam]

Colony 30

The thirtieth space colony of the Side 1 cluster. After the One Year War, Side 1 and Side 2 become hotbeds of anti-Earth Federation sentiment, and on July 31, U.C. 0085, a massive political demonstration takes place at Side 1's Colony 30. Disregarding international law, Titan forces commanded by Bask Om suppress the demonstration with poison gas, exterminating three million innocent colony dwellers. However, this atrocity only serves to inspire stronger resistance, and in the wake of the Colony 30 Incident the AEUG begins preparations for open warfare against the Titans. [Zeta Gundam]

Cosmo Babylon

After the space colony of Frontier IV is occupied by the Crossbone Vanguard, it becomes the capital of the newly founded nation of Cosmo Babylonia. The colony itself is renamed Cosmo Babylon, and its exterior is emblazoned with the nation's flag. [Gundam F91]

Dakar

A coastal city in northwestern Africa, in modern-day Senegal. At the time of the Gryps Conflict, Dakar is the capital of the Earth Federation government, where the Federation Assembly periodically meets to enact legislation. Most of the Federation's administrative functions are subsequently relocated to Lhasa, Tibet in U.C. 0092. [Zeta Gundam]

Earth sphere

The region which encompasses Earth, the moon, and the orbiting space colonies. This is the domain of the Earth Federation, and the setting of Gundam's Universal Century saga. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.)

Frontier Side

A new space colony cluster located in front of the moon at Lagrange point 1. This region was once home to Side 5, which was completely destroyed during the One Year War. The area was redesignated as Side 4 during the postwar reorganization of the Sides, but it remained a shoal zone filled with drifting debris until the construction of the Frontier Side commenced in U.C. 0111.

As of U.C. 0123, construction of the Frontier Side has only just begun. At this point the cluster consists of only four inhabited space colonies, designated Frontier I through Frontier IV. Once these colonies are occupied by the Crossbone Vanguard, the Frontier Side becomes the independent nation of Cosmo Babylonia. [Gundam F91]

Garden of Thorns

The secret headquarters of the Delaz Fleet, hidden in the debris-strewn shoal zone where Side 5 was once located. The Garden of Thorns, made up of a shattered space colony cylinder attached to a resource asteroid, serves as a spaceship dock and factory site for Delaz and his followers. [Gundam 0083]

Gate of Zedan

An asteroid fortress formerly known as A Baoa Qu, which was left in the hands of the Republic of Zeon at the close of the One Year War. Early in the Gryps Conflict, the Republic of Zeon donates this asteroid to the Earth Federation's elite Titans taskforce, who give it a new name and relocate it to the vicinity of Luna II. The Gate of Zedan is placed in its new position on June 8, U.C. 0087, whereupon this asteroid fortress - together with the Luna II supply base and the Gryps space colony - becomes the headquarters of the Titan fleet. [Zeta Gundam]

Granada

Located on the far side of the moon, this is one of the largest lunar cities, second only to Von Braun. Due to Granada's proximity to the Zeon homeland of Side 3, the Earth Federation Space Force establishes a base here prior to the One Year War, but when hostilities commence the base is swiftly overrun by the Principality of Zeon. For the duration of the war, Granada serves as the headquarters of Kycilia Zabi's Mobile Assault Force, and on January 1, U.C. 0080, it hosts the final peace negotiations between the Earth Federation and the restored Republic of Zeon.

After the One Year War, Granada once again becomes a Federation base. However, its citizens remain strongly anti-Federation, and once the Gryps Conflict begins the city openly sides with the AEUG resistance group. [Gundam, Gundam 0080, Zeta Gundam]

Great Canyon

A huge ravine located in the southwest region of North America, corresponding to the modern-day Grand Canyon. Here, Garma Zabi sets up an ambush for the White Base. [Gundam]

Green Oasis

The nickname of the Side 7 space colony cluster at the time of the Gryps Conflict. During the One Year War, Side 7 was known as Noa, which is why its two colonies bear the names Green Noa 1 and Green Noa 2. [Zeta Gundam]

Gryps

The initial headquarters of the Earth Federation's elite Titans taskforce. Originally known as Green Noa 2, this is the second space colony of the Side 7 cluster. Gryps is a closed colony, illuminated by artificial lighting rather than by natural sunlight reflected into the cylinder's interior, and its entire inner surface is covered with factories, construction docks, and military facilities. The colony is actually made up of two shorter segments, designated Gryps 1 and Gryps 2, the latter of which is later remodeled into a mobile colony laser. [Zeta Gundam]

Hickory

A small base maintained by the Karaba resistance group, located in Southern California near the Vandenberg air force base. The Hickory base possesses an antiquated HLV launch vessel, which the AEUG pilots attempt to use to send their last few mobile suits back into space. [Zeta Gundam]

Jaburo

The headquarters of the Earth Federation Forces during the One Year War. Jaburo is a huge underground complex in the heart of modern-day Brazil, whose cavernous reaches house factories, spaceship docks, and all manner of other facilities. Thanks to its subterranean location, Jaburo is impervious to conventional assault - the only ways to attack it are stealthy infiltration, or the brute-force approach of a colony drop.

In the postwar years, Jaburo's strategic significance gradually diminishes. By the time of the Gryps Conflict the base is largely abandoned, and it has become little more than a terrestrial supply depot for the elite Titans taskforce.

Kennedy Spaceport

An old spaceflight facility located at Florida's Cape Canaveral, near the modern-day Kennedy Space Center. At the time of the Gryps Conflict, the Kennedy Spaceport is the site of a war museum managed by former White Base. crewmember Hayato Kobayashi. This museum serves as a front for a secret base operated by the Karaba resistance group. [Zeta Gundam]

Kilimanjaro Base

One of the new terrestrial bases established by the Earth Federation's elite Titans taskforce after the destruction of Jaburo. The base extends deep into the interior of its namesake Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, which was used as a launch point during the space settlement program earlier in the Universal Century era. In addition to military facilities and fortifications, the Kilimanjaro Base also has its own Newtype research lab. This stronghold is the target of a joint assault by the AEUG and Karaba resistance groups in early November of U.C. 0087. [Zeta Gundam]

Kimbareid

A former diamond mine in East Africa, not far from Mount Kilimanjaro. After the end of the One Year War, Kimbareid serves as a refuge for a band of renegade Principality of Zeon soldiers led by Neuen Bitter. [Gundam 0083]

Konpeitoh

After the Earth Federation Forces capture the space fortress Solomon, they adopt it as a staging area for their invasion of the Principality of Zeon's home territory, and rename it Konpeitoh. After the One Year War, this strategically-located asteroid becomes the Federation Space Force's major base, and in U.C. 0083 it's the site of a full-scale naval review. [Gundam, Gundam 0083]

Lhasa

The capital of modern-day Tibet, which becomes the headquarters of the Earth Federation Forces as of August, U.C. 0092. Just seven months later, Lhasa is annihilated when Char Aznable's Neo Zeon fleet targets it with the falling asteroid 5th Luna. [Char's Counterattack]

Libot

One of the space colonies of the neutral Side 6. Libot is the site of a secret Earth Federation Forces military base, a violation of Side 6's neutral stance which draws unwelcome attention from the Principality of Zeon during the last weeks of the One Year War. [Gundam 0080]

Londenion

This space colony, part of the Side 1 cluster, serves as the headquarters of the Earth Federation's Londo Bell taskforce. Its name is derived from Londinium, the Roman fort which later evolved into the city of London. On March 6, U.C. 0093, Londenion hosts a secret meeting between Neo Zeon leader Char Aznable and representatives of the Earth Federation government. [Char's Counterattack]

Luna II

This asteroid, once known as Juno, is originally brought into Earth orbit to serve as a movable mine for space colony construction. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.)

In U.C. 0060, Luna II is converted into a military base for the newly established Earth Federation Space Force, and ten years later it's relocated to Lagrange point 3 for use in the construction of Side 7. Located on the opposite side of Earth from the moon and most of the space colonies, Luna II is rather inconveniently situated for a strategic base. However, after the devastating opening month of the One Year War, it becomes the Federation's last remaining foothold in space. [Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Char's Counterattack]

Moussa

A small, spherical asteroid attached to the asteroid base Axis. Moussa provides the denizens of Axis with extra living space and manufacturing facilities, and it contains a rotating residential block one kilometer in diameter, which produces artificial gravity via centrifugal force. This asteroid can be detached from Axis in case of emergency. [Zeta Gundam]

New Guinea Base

Early in the Gryps Conflict, the Titans decide to abandon the Jaburo base in South America, which had previously served as their terrestrial supply base. Instead, these functions are transferred to a new facility in New Guinea. Though the base is soon raided by the Karaba resistance group, it remains in operation and later serves as the development site of a new mass-produced mobile suit, the RMS-154 Barzam. [Zeta Gundam]

New Hong Kong

An extension of the modern-day city of Hong Kong, which remains a thriving metropolis in the Universal Century. Hong Kong is a major spaceport, which continues to operate regular commercial space flights well into the U.C. 0090 era. [Zeta Gundam, Char's Counterattack]

New Yark

A major city on the eastern coast of North America, corresponding to modern-day New York City. During the One Year War, New Yark serves as the headquarters of Garma Zabi, commander of the Principality's Earth Attack Force. [Gundam]

Odessa

An Eastern European city, located on the northern shore of the Black Sea in modern-day Ukraine. After the Principality of Zeon launches its Earth invasion, Odessa becomes the center of a vast complex of resource-mining facilities supervised by Captain M'Quve. When the Earth Federation Forces launch their counteroffensive, they first target Odessa in order to cut off one of the Principality's most vital supply lines. [Gundam, 08th MS Team]

Sea of Solomon

The region of space surrounding the asteroid fortress Solomon. Though the asteroid base itself is renamed Konpeitoh after it's occupied by the Earth Federation Forces, the area around it is still referred to as the Sea of Solomon. [Gundam 0083]

shoal zone

One of several regions in Earth orbit filled with space colony wreckage, asteroids formerly used for colony construction, and other debris drawn together under the influence of gravity. The resulting clutter renders search and observation systems useless, so these areas serve as convenient hiding places. The former Side 5, which is destroyed in the Battle of Loum at the beginning of the One Year War, subsequently becomes a enormous shoal zone. [Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam]

Side 1

A cluster of space colonies, also called "Zarn," which is located at the stable region in Earth orbit known as Lagrange point 5. Side 1 is heavily damaged during the One Week Battle, and most of its inhabitants are wiped out, but after the war it once again becomes a major population center. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.)

Side 2

A cluster of space colonies, also called "Hatte," which is located at the stable region in Earth orbit known as Lagrange point 4. Side 2 is heavily damaged during the One Week Battle, and most of its inhabitants are wiped out, but after the war it once again becomes a major population center and a hotbed of resistance to the Earth Federation government. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.)

Side 3

A cluster of space colonies, also called "Munzo," which is located at the stable region in Earth orbit known as Lagrange point 2. In U.C. 0058 Side 3 becomes the independent Republic of Zeon, and subsequently the Principality of Zeon, though the Republic is re-established at the end of the One Year War. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.)

Side 4

A cluster of space colonies, also called "Mua," which is located at the stable region in Earth orbit known as Lagrange point 5. Side 4 is heavily damaged during the One Week Battle, and most of its inhabitants are wiped out.

When the Sides are reorganized in U.C. 0084, the Side 4 designation is reassigned to the shoal zone at Lagrange point 1, which was previously known as Side 5. In U.C. 0111, this region is redesignated once again, as construction begins on the new Frontier Side. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.)

Side 5

A cluster of space colonies, also called "Loum," which is located at the stable region in Earth orbit known as Lagrange point 1. Side 5 is completely destroyed during the Battle of Loum, leaving a hazardous shoal zone of drifting debris.

When the Sides are reorganized in U.C. 0084, the Side 5 designation is reassigned to a colony cluster at Lagrange point 4. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.)

Side 6

A cluster of space colonies, also called "Reah," which is located at the stable region in Earth orbit known as Lagrange point 4. Side 6 declares itself neutral on January 11, U.C. 0079, thus escaping the ravages of the One Year War. Quietly aligned with the Principality of Zeon throughout most of the war, it begins leaning towards the Earth Federation as the conflict enters its final weeks.

When the Sides are reorganized in U.C. 0084, the Side 6 designation is reassigned to a colony cluster at Lagrange point 5. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.)

Side 7

The newest Side, also known as "Noa," which is located at the stable region in Earth orbit known as Lagrange point 3. During the One Year War, Side 7 consists of a single incomplete space colony, which doubles as a Federation Forces research site. Due to its proximity to Luna II, and its distance from the Principality of Zeon, Side 7 is considered a relatively safe testing ground for the prototype mobile suits produced by Operation V.

After the war, this Side 7 colony is completed and given the name Green Noa 1. A second colony, known as Green Noa 2 and later renamed Gryps, is added to the cluster in U.C. 0085. (See Maps of Earth Sphere.) [Gundam, Zeta Gundam]

Solomon

One of the Principality of Zeon's asteroid fortresses, which serves as the frontline base of Dozle Zabi's Space Attack Force. Solomon is situated at Lagrange point 5, amid the ruins of the Side 1 cluster. From this strategic base, the Principality's space fleets carry out numerous sorties against the Earth Federation Space Force (EFSF). On December 24, U.C. 0079, Solomon is captured by the Federation Forces and given the new name Konpeitoh.

Sweetwater

A makeshift space colony assembled to house refugees from the wars of the Universal Century. Sweetwater is constructed from one open and one closed colony, haphazardly bolted together. This decrepit refugee camp, located outside the stable orbits that house the other space colonies, is often overlooked by the Earth Federation and thus serves as a breeding ground for underground resistance movements like Char Aznable's Neo Zeon.

A colony named Sweetwater also serves as a base for the AEUG resistance movement during the Gryps Conflict. However, it is unclear whether this is the same colony as the one used by Char's Neo Zeon. [Char's Counterattack]

Texas colony

An abandoned space colony, located at the devastated Side 5. Originally created for recreation and raising livestock, the Texas colony is damaged at the start of the One Year War, locking its mirrors in place and creating a never-ending high noon. By the time the White Base arrives here, the Texas colony has become a barren desert. [Gundam]

Torrington base

A Federation Forces base in eastern Australia, just north of the huge gulf created by the Operation British colony drop. In U.C. 0083, Torrington is chosen as a testing ground for the prototype mobile suits produced by the Gundam Development Project. The base also houses part of the Federation's nuclear arsenal, which was sealed after the Antarctic Treaty prohibited the use of nuclear weapons. [Gundam 0083]

Von Braun

The first and largest lunar city, named after rocketry pioneer Wernher von Braun. Von Braun was established in the Sea of Tranquility in U.C. 0027, at the site where humans first landed on the moon. It's now the home of one of Anaheim Electronics's numerous branch offices, and the prototype mobile suits created as part of the Gundam Development Project were produced at Anaheim's Von Braun factory. [Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam, Char's Counterattack]

Zum City

One of the space colonies of Side 3, and the capital of the Principality of Zeon. Its name is an homage to Zeon Zum Deikun, the founder of the original Republic of Zeon. [Gundam]
