| 13th Autonomous Corps |
 |
An independent subdivision of the
Earth Federation's
Tianem Fleet, to which the
White Base
is assigned prior to its return to space. The composition of the 13th Autonomous Corps changes over time, as the White Base sometimes travels by itself, and on other occasions is escorted by a handful of cruisers.
[Gundam] |
| 3rd Fleet |
|
The
Earth Federation Forces
detachment stationed at the
Frontier Side,
which attempts to defend the Frontier colonies from the onslaught of the
Crossbone Vanguard.
[Gundam F91] |
| 7th Division |
|
One of the
Principality of Zeon's
space fleets, based at the lunar city of
Granada.
While the Principality's other six fleets belong to the
Space Attack Force,
the 7th Division is part of
Kycilia Zabi's
Mobile Assault Force.
This fleet is dispatched, somewhat too late, to help defend the space fortress
Solomon.
[Gundam] |
| Anaheim Electronics |
|
A civilian manufacturing corporation based on the moon, which produces everything from home electronics to battleships. Although the company is headquartered at the lunar city of
Anaheim,
it also has offices and factories in major lunar cities such as
Granada
and
Von Braun.
After the end of the
One Year War,
Anaheim Electronics absorbs a number of wartime weapons developers, including the
Zeonic
corporation, and enters the
mobile suit
development business.
After the One Year War, Anaheim Electronics becomes the primary mobile suit supplier to the
Earth Federation Forces.
However, the company also funds and equips rebel movements like the
Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG)
and Char Aznable's
Neo Zeon,
and in situations like the
Gryps Conflict
and Char's rebellion it often ends up providing weapons to both sides, always to Anaheim's own ultimate profit.
[Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam, Char's Counterattack] |
| Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG) |
|
An anti-Federation movement which opposes the oppressive tactics of the
Federation's
elite
Titans
taskforce. The AEUG's ultimate political agenda is to reform the corrupt Earth Federation government, but after the
Colony 30
Incident of U.C. 0085, the organization becomes focused on the more urgent task of fighting the Titans with military force.
Many AEUG members are dissident
Federation Forces
officers, including its leader Commodore
Blex Forer
and his trusted advisor Lieutenant
Quattro Bajeena.
Its primary sponsor is the lunar manufacturing corporation
Anaheim Electronics,
and the group is supported by the space colonies of
Side 2
and many of the lunar cities. The AEUG also maintains a secret base at the
Sweetwater
colony, where its flagship
Argama
was constructed.
[Zeta Gundam] |
| Augusta Newtype Lab |
|
After the
One Year War
the
Augusta Base,
where the
Earth Federation Forces
conducted their earliest
Newtype
research, becomes the first of the Federation's
Newtype Labs.
The Augusta Lab is located on the northern shore of the Clark Hill Reservoir in modern-day South Carolina, not far from Augusta, Georgia. During the
Gryps Conflict,
this facility produces the
transformable mobile armor
ORX-005 Gaplant
and the
cyber-Newtypes
Rosamia Badam
and
Gates Capa.
[Zeta Gundam] |
| Axis Advance Fleet |
|
A small fleet sent by the renegade
Principality
soldiers at the asteroid base
Axis
to support the
Delaz Fleet.
While the Axis Advance Fleet remains technically neutral throughout
Operation Stardust,
it provides weapons to its fellow rebels and stands by to retrieve Delaz Fleet survivors after the operation is over. This interplanetary convoy is made up of the battleship Gwanzan, eight
Musai-class
cruisers, and ten supply vessels, all under the command of Rear Admiral Yuri Hasler.
[Gundam 0083] |
| Black Vanguard |
|
An elite
Crossbone Vanguard
squadron commanded by Lieutenant
Zabine Chareux.
The squadron's
mobile suits
use a distinctive black-and-purple color scheme.
[Gundam F91] |
| Buch Concern |
|
The
Ronah family's
business empire, established in U.C. 0055. Its subdivisions include the Buch Junk salvage company, the
mobile suit
manufacturer Buch Aerodynamics, and a vocational training school which later provides the basis for the private army known as the
Crossbone Vanguard.
[Gundam F91] |
| Cima Fleet |
|
A group of renegade
Principality of Zeon
soldiers led by Commander
Cima Garahau,
which helps the
Delaz Fleet
carry out
Operation Stardust.
The Cima Fleet is composed of former members of the Principality's notorious marine corps, who are shunned by their former comrades. Cima's forces consist of the Zanzibar-class cruiser
Lili Marleen,
roughly six or seven
Musai-class
cruisers, and about 30
Gelgoog Marine
mobile suits.
[Gundam 0083] |
| Colony Public Corporation |
|
A non-governmental organization established by the
Earth Federation
at the start of its space settlement program. The Colony Public Corporation is responsible for the management and administration of all the hundreds of
space colonies
in Earth orbit, and its employees ensure the proper operation of the colonies' life support systems, external mirrors, and air and water supplies. The organization itself remains stolidly neutral throughout the conflicts which rage in the
Universal Century. |
| Cosmo Babylonia |
|
A new nation established by the
Crossbone Vanguard,
made up of the captured
space colonies
of the
Frontier Side.
Under the leadership of the
Ronah family,
Cosmo Babylonia is dedicated to the principles of aristocracy and noblesse oblige. Cosmo Babylonia soon establishes an alliance with the
Jupiter Fleet,
allowing it to stave off
Earth Federation
interference with the threat of an energy embargo.
[Gundam F91] |
| Crossbone Vanguard |
|
A fighting force organized by the
Ronah family
in U.C. 0106, drawing on the skilled personnel of the
Buch Concern
and its vocational training school. This private army is meant to serve as an advance guard, or vanguard, for the nation of
Cosmo Babylonia.
Originally founded by
Meitzer Ronah,
the Crossbone Vanguard is eventually placed under the command of the mysterious
Iron Mask.
After years of preparation, the Crossbone Vanguard enters combat with an assault on the
space colony
Frontier
I in U.C. 0123. This highly motivated elite force far surpasses the
Earth Federation Forces
in terms of training and tactical skill, and its advanced
mobile suits
also outperform the Federation's antiquated machines.
[Gundam F91] |
| Delaz Fleet |
|
A rebel organization composed of former
Principality of Zeon
soldiers, led by Vice Admiral
Aiguille Delaz.
After three years of planning and preparation, the Delaz Fleet emerges in U.C. 0083 to carry out
Operation Stardust.
Its forces consist of the Gwazine-class battleship Gwaden, roughly a dozen Musai-class cruisers, several dozen
mobile suits,
and assorted supply ships and cargo transporters.
[Gundam 0083] |
| Earth Attack Force |
|
One of the three principal branches of the
Principality of Zeon's
military, nominally commanded by Captain
Garma Zabi.
The Earth Attack Force is created in February of U.C. 0079 in order to carry out a full-scale invasion of Earth. By September, when the
Mobile Suit Gundam
series begins, the Earth Attack Force controls two-thirds of the Earth's surface.
The Earth Attack Force is divided into five regional branches known as Terrestrial Mobile Divisions. The 1st Terrestrial Mobile Division is stationed in Europe and Central Asia, the 2nd and 3rd on the west and east coasts of North America, the 4th in Oceania and Australasia, and the 5th in Africa and the Middle East. |
| Earth Federation |
|
The unified world government that launched the space settlement program and now rules over both Earth and the
space colonies.
Its main decision-making body is the Earth Federation Assembly, which meets occasionally to pass new legislation.
Though not as cruel and aggressive as the
Principality of Zeon's
leaders, the bureaucrats who rule over the Earth Federation are corrupt, weak-willed, and insensitive to the space colonists' desire for independence. After the
One Year War,
the Federation decides to concentrate its energies on reconstructing Earth instead of the space colonies, further increasing political tensions. |
| Earth Federation Forces |
|
The military arm of the
Earth Federation.
The Federation Forces are divided into several branches, including land, sea, air, and
space forces.
Until mass production of the
RGM-79 GM
begins in the final weeks of the
One Year War,
the Federation Forces are forced to battle the Principality of Zeon's
mobile suits
using conventional tanks, planes, and space fighters. Even in the postwar years, the Federation Forces are usually inferior to their opponents in terms of skill, morale, and equipment. |
| Earth Federation Space Force (EFSF) |
|
The space branch of the
Federation Forces,
established in U.C. 0059 in response to
Side 3's
declaration of independence. The Federation Space Force is headquartered at
Luna II,
and after the
One Year War
it also maintains outposts at many
space colonies
and at asteroid bases such as
Konpeitoh.
The EFSF fleet is primarily made up of
Salamis-class
space cruisers, upgraded versions of which remain in service even after the introduction of newer models. |
| Flanagan Institute |
|
A civilian research institute, sponsored by the
Principality of Zeon,
which is established in June of U.C. 0079 to investigate
Newtype
phenomena. In addition to scientific research, the Flanagan Institute's work involves developing weapons for use by Newtypes, recruiting Newtype test subjects, and training them to use their powers in battle.
[Gundam, 08th MS Team] |
| Jupiter Fleet |
|
Thanks to the development of the
thermonuclear reactor,
the people of the
Universal Century
have access to safe and abundant fusion power. However, these reactors are fueled by a rare
helium-3
isotope which is almost nonexistent on Earth. This precious fusion fuel is collected from the atmosphere of the planet Jupiter and brought back to the Earth sphere by a non-governmental organization known as the Jupiter Fleet, which operates a fleet of
Inter-Planetary Helium Carriers.
The helium-3 supplied by the Jupiter Fleet is a vital resource in the age of space settlement, and during wartime its vessels are protected from attack by international treaties. The Jupiter Fleet, in turn, is technically neutral, but its fuel monopoly allows it to exert considerable political influence.
[Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam F91] |
| Karaba |
|
A terrestrial resistance group which cooperates with the
AEUG
to fight the tyranny of the
Titans.
While the AEUG retains the rank structure and military discipline of the regular
Federation Forces,
Karaba is an informal guerilla organization made up of civilian volunteers, including a number of former
White Base
crewmembers. With few safe bases to call its own, Karaba eventually turns the captured transport plane Audhumla into its airborne command post.
[Zeta Gundam] |
| Kojima Battalion |
|
A mechanized battalion supervised by Lieutenant Colonel Kojima, which fights as part of the Federation's Southeast Asia forces during the latter half of the
One Year War.
The Kojima Battalion is organized into two
mobile suit
companies, each subdivided into four teams of three mobile suits apiece, as well as an anti-mobile suit infantry company. 2nd Lieutenant
Shiro Amada
commands the Kojima Battalion's 08th MS Team. [08th MS Team] |
| Londo Bell |
|
The
Earth Federation Space Force
is reorganized after the
Gryps Conflict,
and its fleets are distributed among the
Sides
in order to suppress resistance in the
space colonies.
However, these colony garrisons are seldom able to leave their posts, so in U.C. 0090 a special auxiliary unit called the Londo Bell is organized to patrol the rest of the
Earth sphere
and investigate signs of anti-Federation resistance. The Londo Bell's task is essentially the same as that of the
Titans,
but since the Londo Bell's ranks are comprised of former
AEUG
members who put their lives on the line to oppose the Titans, they carry out their mission in a far more humane fashion.
Despite the importance of its mission, the Londo Bell is always short of personnel and resources. It isn't until
Char Aznable
and his
Neo Zeon
fleet take over the refugee colony
Sweetwater
at the end of U.C. 0092 that the Londo Bell is reinforced in earnest, with the addition of Captain
Bright Noa
and the newly-constructed battleship Ra Cailum. By the time Char's Neo Zeon forces seize control of the asteroid
5th Luna,
the Londo Bell fleet consists of the Ra Cailum, the cruisers Ra Zyme, Ra Kiem, and Ra Chutter, and roughly 20
mobile suits.
[Char's Counterattack] |
| Luio & Co. |
|
A manufacturing corporation based in
New Hong Kong,
which lends supplies and support to
Karaba
and its
AEUG
allies. Though Luio Woomin is the rebels' actual sponsor, his daughter Stephanie serves as his representative in dealing directly with the resistance fighters.
[Zeta Gundam] |
| MIP |
|
A civilian company that develops many of the weapons used by the
Principality of Zeon.
When the Principality first considers new weapons designed for the
Minovsky particle
era, MIP's concept of a highly mobile space fighter is rejected in favor of Zeonic's
mobile suits.
However, MIP's concept later reappears in the form of
mobile armors
like the
MA-05 Bigro.
Although the company is best known for its mobile armors, it's also the developer of the highly successful amphibious mobile suit
MSM-07 Z'gok. |
| Mobile Assault Force |
|
One of the three principal branches of the
Principality of Zeon's
military, commanded by Rear Admiral
Kycilia Zabi.
The Mobile Assault Force is based at the lunar city of
Granada.
In addition to the space fleet known as the
7th Division,
Kycilia's forces include assorted intelligence services, research projects, resource-mining operations, and special forces teams. |
| Murasame Newtype Lab |
|
Located in Japan, this is one of a handful of
Newtype research institutes
established by the
Earth Federation Forces
after the
One Year War.
The Murasame Lab goes on to produce the fearsome
transformable mobile armors
MRX-009 Psyco Gundam
and
MRX-010 Psyco Gundam Mk.II,
but fields only a single
cyber-Newtype
pilot, who is given the codename
Four Murasame.
[Zeta Gundam] |
| Neo Zeon |
|
A name used by two separate movements which follow in the footsteps of the
Principality of Zeon.
In U.C. 0088, the renegade Principality forces based at the asteroid
Axis
adopt the name Neo Zeon and set out to restore the dominion of the Zabi family. Nominally led by the Zabi heir, the child princess
Mineva Lao Zabi,
this Neo Zeon movement is in fact controlled by Mineva's regent
Haman Karn.
In U.C. 0092 the legendary
Char Aznable
returns as the leader of a second Neo Zeon movement, which aims to continue the work of Char's father
Zeon Zum Deikun.
Char's Neo Zeon fleet is based at the refugee
colony
Sweetwater
and consists of the battleship Rewloola, thirteen Musaka-class cruisers, and roughly a hundred
mobile suits.
[Char's Counterattack] |
| Newtype Labs |
|
During the
One Year War,
the
Principality of Zeon's
Flanagan Institute
conducts pioneering research into
Newtype
phenomena and their military applications. In U.C. 0082, the
Earth Federation Forces
establish their own network of Newtype research institutes to continue in the Flanagan Institute's footsteps. These Newtype Labs devise methods for turning ordinary humans into artificial
cyber-Newtypes,
and create powerful
mobile armors
for their use.
There are roughly half a dozen of these institutes on Earth, including the
Murasame Lab
in Japan, the
Augusta
and
Oakland
labs in North America, the
Kilimanjaro
Lab in Africa, and the Pyongyang Lab in Korea. The
Titans
maintain their own Newtype lab at the
Gryps
space colony
and, as their influence grows, the other Newtype Labs align themselves with the Titans as well.
[Zeta Gundam] |
| Oakland Newtype Lab |
|
Located in North America, this is one of a handful of
Newtype research institutes
established by the
Earth Federation Forces
after the
One Year War.
Around the time of the
AEUG's
assault on
Jaburo,
the Oakland Lab is taken over by the
Titans,
who dispatch test pilot Buran Blutarch and the
transformable mobile armor
NRX-044 Asshimar
to intercept the escaping AEUG forces.
[Zeta Gundam] |
| Principality of Zeon |
|
In U.C. 0068,
Degwin Sodo Zabi
becomes leader of the
Republic of Zeon,
the autonomous government of
Side 3.
The following year he establishes a new government, declaring himself sovereign of the Principality of Zeon. This is the rebel space nation that challenges the
Earth Federation
during the
One Year War.
Although the Principality is effectively a totalitarian dictatorship ruled by the Zabi family, it retains some vestiges of the former democratic government, including a powerless national assembly and a figurehead prime minister. |
| Republic of Zeon |
|
The original democratic government of
Side 3.
The Republic is established in U.C. 0058 under the leadership of
Zeon Zum Deikun,
as an independent nation beyond the control of the
Earth Federation.
Eleven years later, it becomes the
Principality of Zeon,
a dictatorship ruled by the Zabi family. The Republic is restored at the end of the
One Year War,
but in its new incarnation it's seen by many as an illegitimate puppet government under Federation control. |
| Ronah family |
|
The founders of the
Crossbone Vanguard
and
Cosmo Babylonia,
whose original family name was Buch. Having made a fortune in the salvage business, family patriarch Scharnhorst Buch purchased the Ronah name in U.C. 0068 to suit his aristocratic ambitions. For a family that believed itself truly superior to the common masses who polluted the
Earth sphere,
this act seemed like a suitable way to distinguish itself.
In addition to the business empire known as the
Buch Concern,
the Ronah family has also held important positions in the
Earth Federation
Assembly and the
Colony Public Corporation,
allowing it to advance its own grand plans. In U.C. 0123, the Ronah family uses its private army, the Crossbone Vanguard, to seize the
Frontier Side
and found the nation of Cosmo Babylonia.
[Gundam F91] |
| Space Attack Force |
|
One of the three principal branches of the
Principality of Zeon's
military, commanded by Vice Admiral
Dozle Zabi.
The Space Attack Force is made up of six battle fleets, which provide the bulk of the Principality's space power. Dozle's headquarters are at the asteroid fortress
Solomon,
which serves as a frontline base for the Space Attack Force. |
| Strategic Naval Research Institute (SNRI) |
|
A military research organization established by the
Earth Federation Forces
in U.C. 0093, which incorporates a number of formerly separate research institutes and intelligence agencies. SNRI specializes in strategy, tactics, and weapons development, and goes on to propose the creation of a new line of highly compact
mobile suits.
In U.C. 0111, the Federation Forces decide to adopt SNRI's Formula series for their next generation of mobile suits, and SNRI replaces
Anaheim Electronics
as the Federation's premier weapons developer. However, due to Anaheim's manufacturing expertise, the company's services are retained to put SNRI's designs into mass production.
[Gundam F91] |
| Titans |
|
An elite branch of the
Federation Forces
created in the aftermath of
Operation Stardust.
The Titans are charged with hunting down the renegade soldiers of the
Principality of Zeon,
and suppressing anti-Federation movements, but their overzealous actions soon create a new generation of resistance groups. The Titans are initially headquartered at the
Gryps
space colony,
but as they gain control over the regular Federation Forces and form an alliance with the
Republic of Zeon,
they also take over
Luna II
and the
Gate of Zedan.
[Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam] |
| Zeonic |
|
The civilian company that develops the first
mobile suits,
and goes on to become the
Principality of Zeon's
main mobile suit supplier. Zeonic is responsible for the development of the
MS-05 Zaku I
and
MS-06 Zaku II,
as well as later models like the
MSM-04 Acguy
and
MS-14 Gelgoog.
After the
One Year War,
the company merges with
Anaheim Electronics,
and its facilities at the lunar city of
Granada
become one of Anaheim's main mobile suit factories. Many of Zeonic's engineers likewise continue their work as Anaheim employees, though some reportedly flee to the asteroid base
Axis
along with the defeated forces of the Principality. |
| Zimmad |
|
A civilian company that develops many of the weapons used by the
Principality of Zeon,
including the
mobile suits
MS-09 Dom
and
MSM-03 Gogg.
Zimmad triumphs over its longtime rival
Zeonic
when the MS-R09 Rick Dom is chosen to succeed the
Zaku II
as the Principality's main space combat mobile suit. However, its next design, the
YMS-15 Gyan,
is rejected in favor of Zeonic's
MS-14 Gelgoog.
After the end of the
One Year War,
Zimmad devotes itself to maintaining the equipment of the
Republic of Zeon's
military forces. |
