The original Zeta Gundam, created during the Gryps Conflict of U.C. 0087, transformed into a streamlined "Wave Rider" mode capable of surviving atmospheric re-entry. To reduce the Re-GZ's production costs, Anaheim eliminated the transformation mechanisms and instead designed it to dock with a special Back Weapon System booster, which gives it extra firepower and extended range. However, the project was canceled, and the orphaned prototype was donated to the Earth Federation's Londo Bell taskforce.
